The Signs of Hookworm in a Child



Hookworm is defined as an intestinal infection that can occur due to two parasite types namely Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus. Both these parasites are found in soil. The symptoms of hookworm in a child include the following health disorders :
Anemia : Majority of the cases of iron-deficiency anemia in children is due to hookworm. The initial days of hookworm infection might not cause any changes in the child’s health; but, after a few days the child will start appearing fatigued and abnormally pale. He might also find it difficult to concentrate on studies. If anemia in a child is not treated at the right time, it might result in learning and behavioral problems.

Why you need folic acid during pregnancy

Women who are pregnant or might become pregnant need folic acid (vitamin B9 or folate, as it's known in its naturally occurring state) for a number of compelling reasons:
  • Folic acid helps prevent neural tube defects (NTDs) – serious birth defects of the spinal cord (such as spina bifida) and the brain (anencephaly). Neural tube defects occur at a very early stage of development, before many women even know they're pregnant. They affect about 3,000 pregnancies a year in the United States.
